Geekvape Wenax M1

The Geekvape Wenax M1 is a beginner vape pen made for MTL vaping. It is compatible with two pods but comes with only one in the package, so make sure you pick the one you want to try first—the 1.2-ohm pod is great for nicotine salt while the 0.8-ohm pod produces warmer vapor. The pods hold 2 mL and the 800 mAh battery is charged through USB-C.

Product intro and specs

The M1 is the latest vape in Geekvape’s Wenax line, a line that’s aimed toward the beginner vaper. The first Wenax, the Stylus, was praised in 2020 for its tight MTL draw and ease of use, and these two features have become synonymous with the line.

The M1 is the smallest Wenax to date and comes in the form of a vape pen—or, according to Geekvape, the shape of a cigar. It takes 2 mL replaceable pods available in two resistances, and the battery is rated at 800 mAh and charges through Type-C.

There are no buttons or airflow adjustments here, it’s a purely auto-draw device and one of the most straightforward refillable vapes on the market. If you are a beginner vaper, I can already tell you that it ticks most of the boxes. But keep reading to find out more.

Price: $10.99 (at Element Vape)

Colors: Black, red, gunmetal, gradient gold, gradient blue, gradient orange, gradient green, blue/red.

Build quality and design

Before I get into the build quality and design of the M1, let’s get one thing out of the way; the packaging is quite possibly the most barebones I’ve ever seen. The device comes in a tiny box, and the only thing inside is one Wenax M1 battery and a pre-installed pod—either 0.8 or 1.2 ohm. No Type-C cables, no extra pods, no manual. Just a vape, similar to what you get when you buy a disposable. Geekvape has cut costs from all the accessories, and I wish this were reflected in pricing as well.

At 34 grams, the device is very compact and lightweight, but the metallic construction has some high-quality vibes. I received two gradient blue units; I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to see any other color options, but I really like the looks and the simple design. There are no buttons, just a simple cylindrical vape pen with one airflow hole on each side, a thin LED light, and a couple of almost transparent logos. The Type-C port is at the bottom of the battery, and that’s about it as far as the body is concerned.

As for the pod, it is tinted but it is not a dark tint so you can easily see how much juice is left. Around ¾ of the pod is visible as well. The side filling port is made of rubber and the mouthpiece also has a rubber coating around it, which makes it super comfortable—easily one of the most comfortable mouthpieces I’ve ever tried. Unfortunately, the coating gets dirty, and wiping gunk off it is not as easy as it is with your average mouthpiece. But it’s a minor inconvenience, and one I’d easily live with for such a comfortable design.

Getting started

Staying loyal to the Wenax line, the M1 is very easy to operate, even as far as pod vapes and pens are concerned. When you take it out of its package, you just need to remove the sticker from the contacts of the pod, fill the pod through the side fill port, and set it aside for five minutes. Then just inhale on the mouthpiece and you are good to go. The device comes without a charging cable, so make sure you have one at hand when the battery is depleted.

Performance

Unfortunately, I can only talk about the performance of the 1.2-ohm pods, because Geekvape didn’t send any of the 0.8-ohm pods for testing. I am going to assume that the 0.8-ohm pods produce a slightly warmer vape, but that’s as far as I can go for now. If they send replacement pods, I will update this section.

The 1.2-ohm pods produce good flavor and warmer vapor than I expected. It is very similar in performance to the Voopoo Vinci Q—which is one of my favorite pod vapes—but the draw is even tighter on the M1. It is a medium to tight MTL draw, and an excellent draw for those who’ll use it as a first vape. And this is complimented by an excellent and super-sensitive draw sensor.

Most of my testing was done with 25 mg salts and got a very strong hit and clean flavor. I usually vape 20-25 mg salts on MTL pod vapes and I was expecting to have to raise my nic for this one, but 25 mg felt even a bit too high. That said, I would probably try the 0.8-ohm pods with anything lower than 20 mg salts or 12 mg regular nicotine. But, as it always is with nicotine strengths, your mileage may vary.

My only complaint is that performance started dropping around the 2.5 mL mark, even though Geekvape markets it as a regulated output device. The output on the 1.2-ohm pod is listed at 10-13 watts, so I’m guessing that after going through 2.5 mL of juice I was getting around 10-11 watts. That’s not a big deal, and the fact that you can go through more than 2.5 mL on a charge is a pro on its own, but I do wish it kept the output steady at 13 watts throughout.

As for coil life, I unfortunately lost count of the fills due to having two identical devices. I’m guessing that I’m at the 7-8 fill ballpark, and while flavor has deteriorated, I could go through a couple more fills before having to replace the pod. Finally, I haven’t had any leaking from the pods, and the contacts are completely dry. I can’t guarantee that it stays leakproof with very thin e-liquid, but I didn’t experience any leaking with 50/50 juice.

Battery life and charging

Battery capacity is listed at 800 mAh, which is more than I expected from a device that’s so small and lightweight. And it seems to be accurately rated. Most similar devices would last for 2-3 mL on a charge and this one managed to go through a bit over 3 mL. But as I noted in the performance section, it did feel weaker after around 2.5 mL, so that’s where I’d probably plug it in for a charge.

The device charges through Type-C and I timed a full charge at just under one hour. The LED lights show battery levels every time you take a puff. But with no manual and no info on Geekvape’s website, I’m not sure what charge level each color represents. For what it’s worth, the colors are green, blue, and red. Finally, the device supports passthrough charging, so you can use it when it’s plugged in.

Verdict

As I said in the intro, the Wenax M1 ticks most of the beginner vape boxes. It is compact, lightweight, practically foolproof, has a nice tight draw, and is a perfect fit for nicotine salts. It also comes with solid battery life and Type-C charging, and one of the most comfortable mouthpieces I’ve ever tried.

My only real complaint here is that Geekvape may have overdone it with cost-cutting, while at the same time the price for the kit in the US is relatively high (it's much cheaper in the EU.) At that price, I really wish they had included at least a second pod in the package, if not a charging cable as well. But if you are a smoker looking to quit, don’t let that deter you from giving it a go. It is an excellent first vape, and much cheaper than a week’s worth of disposables.
