Geekvape Wenax Q Pro

Although the Geekvape Wenax Q Pro uses the same line of pods as the original, the device itself has undergone a massive overhaul. It houses a 1200 mAh battery and features a full-color screen (with animations), touch-sensitive buttons, haptic feedback, and 30 watts of power. Available in eight different colorways.

Product intro and specs

The Geekvape Wenax series has been thriving since 2020. While focusing exclusively on entry-level starter kits, the range offers a variety of styles, including pod vapes, e-liquid pens, and even HnB-inspired vapes. One of the most popular offerings in this lineup is the original Wenax Q, which hit the market in June 2023. A mini version was released shortly after, but users have had to wait over a year for the full-sized sequel: the Geekvape Wenax Q Pro.

Although it’s not a proper “version two,” the Pro is a big step up from the original. It features a full-color screen, a three-button interface, a 1200 mAh battery, 30 watts of power, and faster charging (2 amps). Essentially, it’s just an upgraded device for the same line of pods (Q pods).

Was it worth the wait? While I’ll refrain from major spoilers, the Wenax Q Pro is certainly a force to be reckoned with. It isn’t perfect (nothing is), but it has no fatal flaws either. It’s an incredibly well-rounded and approachable pod vape. But can it compete with the top-tier kits on the market? Keep reading to find out.

Price: $29.99 (at Element Vape)

Build quality and design

The look and feel of the Geekvape Wenax Q Pro immediately won me over. It harmonizes a classic aesthetic with modern features and functionality. While this may not invoke excitement for everyone, it perfectly suits my tastes. The chassis (likely zinc alloy) is coated with a soft matte finish, lacking any graphics, patterns, or textures. Understated designs like this are underrated; if implemented well, they add a touch of class that can’t be matched by leather, carbon fiber, or fancy IML panels.

This minimalistic concept is sharply contrasted by the front (screen side) of the device. It’s covered by a glossy plastic panel with a gradient effect, transitioning from the color of the device to black (concealing the screen). It’s a fingerprint magnet, but it looks sharp. It’s also worth noting that the slim ring around the button is colored to match the device. As someone who appreciates details, I always celebrate little touches like that.

The Wenax Q Pro may not be especially small or light, but it’s not large or heavy either. It offers an agreeable balance between the two. If pod systems were classified by size, consider this one a medium. Although it’s not an IP67 device, it’s somewhat more resilient than most pod vapes due to the thick rubber padding along the bottom. Not only does this prevent scratches, but it could protect the device if dropped onto a hard surface (assuming it lands bottom-down).

One of the most attractive features of the Q Pro is the 0.96-inch color screen. It’s a massive upgrade from the tiny black/white screen of the original, but it’s still lacking in some ways (yes, I’m aware that I’m notoriously critical of screens!).

  • The good: the colors and animations are beautiful. It also accounts for every display element on my wish list: wattage, battery percentage, resistance, and a four-digit puff counter.
  • The bad: aside from the wattage display, the fonts are tiny. This might be forgivable with a smaller screen; however, 40% of the display is empty, indicating that the space could have been better optimized. Also, all the fonts are white, making them even harder to distinguish.

Getting started

As with any advanced pod system, it’s important to familiarize yourself with a few click counts before getting started. Thankfully, basic instructions are printed on the device’s screen protector, so there’s no need to dig through the manual.

  • One click to wake up the screen.
  • Three clicks to enter wattage-adjustment mode
  • Four clicks to access the menu.
  • Five clicks to power on or off.

The included Q pods feature the same top-fill system popularized by the XROS series (sometimes referred to as “crack-to-fill”). Using your thumb, apply pressure to the mouthpiece (wide side) until it snaps off, exposing the fill port. While this part of the process is simple, the next part can be challenging. There is no air escape hole on the pod, which means the air must escape through the fill port. This sometimes results in a messy experience (there’s a trick to it: tilt the pod at a 45-degree angle away from the fill port).

After filling a new pod, set it aside for a few minutes and allow the cotton to saturate. After that, pop it into the device, adjust the airflow switch (on the side) and power level to your preferred settings, and start vaping. You can further customize the experience by accessing the menu (four clicks):

  • Mode: SMART mode limits the power to a recommended range for the installed pod. POWER mode has no restrictions; you can select any wattage you like.
  • Lock: enable or disable button-firing.
  • Puff Reset: reset the puff counter.
  • Eco: turn off animations and vibrations to extend battery life. Note that the lights on the button and the top of the device cannot be disabled, rendering it less than ideal for stealth situations.

One big advantage of the Geekvape Wenax Q Pro is the inclusion of adjustment buttons. When entering the menu or wattage-adjustment mode, two touch-sensitive buttons display under the screen (much like the VAPORESSO LUXE XR MAX). Not only is this a slick feature (who doesn’t like hidden buttons, right?), but it also makes operating the device incredibly user-friendly. Sure, a single-button interface (which has become the standard for pod vapes) may be adequate, but a three-button system makes life much easier.

The Wenax Q Pro is compatible with the Geekvape Q pods, which have been available for over a year. Considering their fantastic reputation, I was excited to try them for myself. The kit includes two pods: 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm (a 1.2-ohm pod is also available, but not included). Here are my impressions after over a week of use.

0.8-ohm Q pod (MTL): Using my usual 50/50 (freebase nicotine) e-liquid, this pod immediately surprised me. It required very little break-in time, jumping right to peak performance after a couple of puffs. In response, I may have uttered, “Hello, what have we here?” (a la Lando Calrissian); however, I will neither confirm nor deny this.

Is it the best MTL experience I’ve had all year? No, but that’s an extremely tight race. Pod manufacturing has improved across the board, making runaway winners a thing of the past. Suffice it to say that this is a damn fine MTL vape; I doubt you’ll be disappointed. As for longevity, the flavor started to drop after about 21 mL of e-liquid.

0.6-ohm Q pod (RDL): 0.6-ohm pods usually fall into a grey area between MTL and RDL. I opted to test this one in RDL to determine how well it could handle higher VG (70%) e-liquids. It was certainly up to the task—every puff was perfectly saturated (no dry hits).

The flavor was also impressive; I’d put it right up there with the 0.6-ohm pods for the OXVA XLIM and VAPORESSO LUXE X2. However, it did require a significant break-in period. The flavor was rubbish during the first 25-30 puffs (I even wondered if the pod was defective), but it quickly came to life after that. Ignore first impressions and stick with this one; it gets dramatically better! Still, it didn’t last as long as I had hoped. After 19-20 mL of e-liquid, this pod was done for.

Battery life and charging

Another notable upgrade on the Wenax Q Pro is the 1200 mAh battery, which is 20% more capacity than the original (1000 mAh). However, the Pro is also about 16% larger, so there is a tradeoff between size and capacity. Regardless, it’s not an especially large device, so I’ll gladly take the extra running time. I managed to go through 5.7-6.1 mL of e-liquid between charges, which is more than respectable.

Charging is done via the 2-amp type-C port on the side of the device. While charging, the battery percentage remains visible on the screen so you can monitor its progress. This is always a big pro for me, as a percentage is considerably more informative than a flashing light or battery bar.

Although the charging time is fast enough to satisfy many users, it’s nothing to get excited about. The two devices I tested required 49-61 minutes for a full charge (one of them consistently charged slower than the other). For comparison, the VAPORESSO XROS 4 NANO charges in only 35-37 minutes and it has a 1350 mAh battery. An hour for 1200 mAh may be acceptable, but there’s room for improvement.

Verdict

Pod vapes have improved exponentially over the past few years. It wasn’t long ago that a couple of big manufacturers were way ahead of the pack, while everyone else was scrambling to catch up. I think it’s fair to say that many companies, including Geekvape, have caught up. The Wenax Q Pro is proof of that. It may not clobber the competition with its mind-blowing flavor and groundbreaking features, but it can hang with the best of them.

While major cons are few and far between, there are some areas where the Wenax Q Pro is lacking. The screen layout could be managed better, the charging speed could be improved, and the pods need a proper air escape hole to expedite the filling process. The pods also wobble slightly when installed, but it’s not terribly noticeable.

Shortcomings aside, this is a fantastic pod system that certainly deserves some recognition. It just ticks all the right boxes: a large battery, great performance, a slick design, haptic feedback, and an intuitive interface (the adjustment buttons are a great touch!). Whether you’re a pod enthusiast or searching for your first starter kit, I’d highly recommend checking this one out.
