OXVA XLIM Pro Review: Big Flavor on a Small Puff!

Introducing OXVA's latest pod system, the handsome XLIM Pro kit. It’s the latest device in the XLIM ecosystem of pod vapes.

OXVA has made a name for itself over the past couple of years, with its products getting more and more favorable reviews. Although I’m new to the XLIM line, my experience with the XLIM Pro thus far solidifies the sentiment that OXVA is doing good work in the vape space.

The XLIM Pro kit is a semi-advanced vape geared toward the hobbyist vaper, or maybe the reformed hobbyist vaper, who still wants flexibility and control but with the supreme convenience of a refillable pod vape. With features like a 1000 mAh battery, adjustable wattage from 5-30 watts, an LED screen, and a variety of pod options, OXVA has produced a compact kit that can satisfy some of the most persnickety vapers.

Although I love this kit, all is not perfect. Let me tell you about my experience with it; then, you can decide whether it should make it to your Christmas list.

Build quality and design

The first thing you notice about the XLIM Pro is the build quality. I received several of the finishes, and they’re all stellar (especially for a modestly priced kit). Even the leather feels real, not like some cheap composite material. The wood grain finishes are not real wood, but they’re made with a similar (albeit aggressive) texture that feels great in the hand. No chipping, flaking, or peeling decals on this device!

The XLIM Pro is a compact vape that carries some heft for its size, weighing in at 66 grams. The heft comes from its materials, which include stainless steel contours and a sizable 1000 mAh battery. The weight is not a shortcoming, though. It’s evenly distributed throughout the device. After reviewing so many disposables as of late, I really enjoy holding something other than plastic!

As mentioned, the XLIM Pro is a single-button device. The fire button is on the side of the device, but the device is also inhale-to-fire. On the other side, you'll find the airflow control switch. The front panel is where the LED screen sits, and it features a glowing RGB band that illuminates while you take a puff and also acts as a battery status indicator. When you drop in a pod, the RGB band alternates red, green, and blue. Whatever! I’m not a fan of light shows, but at least it’s tastefully executed.

Getting started

Although this is basically a plug-and-play kit, the novice vaper should be aware of a few things. The side button is the only button to interface with the power adjustments. It's also a fire button to activate the vape, but you can also just inhale without pressing the button since the XLIM Pro has an automatic draw.

The XLIM Pro comes with two pods: 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm. There are four total pods available for this kit (which are also compatible with the other XLIM devices). They’re magnetized, transparent pods, holding 2 mL of e-liquid.

OXVA calls the pods “top fill,” but it's really a side fill port that's above the pod housing. In that way, you can refill without having to remove the pod. The refill plug is an anchored plug, which will keep it from popping out. But it’s also a flimsy plug, and there’s not much to pull up on. If you have sausage fingers and no fingernail protrusion, you will have issues. Be prepared for unnecessary frustration.

I should mention that the placement of the plug is meant to help resist leaking. I’ve had not a drop of leakage, so that’s a positive.

Once you’re all filled up, let it wait for a few minutes. Now it’s time to power up.

Due to the single-button interface, you can only adjust up until it round-robins. The wattage moves in 0.5-watt increments, and holding the button makes it go faster. It’s not as quick to change wattages as I’d like, but it’s not something you’ll have to change often. Frankly, the smart power feature sets it just about perfectly, so there’s not much need to change if you don’t want to.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the XLIM Pro puts in the work! All the coils perform well for flavor and vapor. The standout is the 0.4-ohm pod (not included.) THAT pod is the stallion! The 0.4-ohm pod puts out flavor like a nice sub ohm tank, but with a tighter concentration of an RDL hit. I haven’t been this impressed with flavor in a long time. It’s a crime for this pod to not be included in the kit.

I’ve refilled the 0.4-ohm pod the most. By a large margin! About 30 mL so far, and it hasn’t slowed down a bit. It does guzzle juice, though. And with only a 2 mL capacity, you better keep your juice bottle with you, or you won’t get very far before having an empty pod. Just writing this review, I’ve refilled it several times.

I thought the 1.2-ohm MTL pod was going to be my favorite. It was the first one I used. I enjoyed it immensely until I opened up the 0.4-ohm pod. I haven’t touched it since. That said, the 1.2-ohm pod works well for nicotine salt or high nic in general, particularly with the airflow at a minimum and wattage set below 10 watts.

While the 0.6-ohm and 0.8-ohm pods are also solid performers, I think they’re a bit redundant and lacking in oomph. Of course, those are the two that come with the kit. There’s very little difference between the two in terms of performance.

Note: the 0.4-ohm pod has a red bottom. The other pods are indistinguishable from each other except for a super small font on the bottom of the pod. I’m in my 40s. My eyes ain’t got time for all that! Please, OXVA, find a way to clearly distinguish the different pods from one another, like you did with the 0.4-ohm pod.

Battery life and charging

Although the XLIM Pro is marketed as having this long-lasting battery, I’m really only getting a day or so before needing a recharge. I’m a bit disappointed in that. As much as I have to refill and charge, I’m not coasting as much as I’d like. Maybe the XLIM SQ Pro (the square version) would be a better fit for me since it has a 1200 mAh battery.

The charge is USB-C, like all other vapes nowadays. The battery charge light is a little confusing at first. Colors flash, then the flash slows until it gets solid, then turns off. The slow fash begins about midway through the blue stage. Here is the charge cycle key:

The lights turn off when the charge completes. The total charge time was 45 minutes, making it a quick charge in my book.

Verdict

My impression of the XLIM Pro is highly positive. OXVA has done an excellent job with this kit, although it's not without its flaws. The most prominent issue for me is the refill plug. It's a minor detail, but it becomes significantly irritating when refilling frequently due to another con, which is that it guzzles juice.

Despite these minor drawbacks, I highly recommend this kit. Its excellence makes the small flaws more noticeable, like a stain on a tuxedo. If you can overlook these, you'll appreciate the high-quality device that OXVA created.

Even with the cons, I strongly recommend the OXVA XLIM Pro…unless you have fat fingers.
