VAPORESSO LUXE X Review: Great for Low-Wattage Vaping

The LUXE X is the latest pod system by VAPORESSO, a company that has established itself as one of the best vape manufacturers in the industry with many great devices. Some of my favorites have been the GEN and LUXE series of mods, but their pod and AIO systems, like the recent GEN AIR 40 and LUXE QS, have been great as well.

The LUXE X is a pod kit listed at 40 watts, and it is made for both MTL and DL vaping. It comes with a simple interface, an impressive see-through design, and a built-in battery listed at 1500 mAh. It’s available in seven colors and takes replaceable pods with a massive 5 mL capacity.

The LUXE has become VAPORESSO’s flagship series, with many excellent entries throughout the last couple of years. Keep reading to find out if the LUXE X continues the line’s tradition of well-built and high-performing vapes.

Build quality and design

The LUXE X is larger than basic pods like the Caliburn A2 or the LUXE QS, but smaller than some of the large AIOs on the market. It’s similar to the GEN AIR 40 I recently reviewed, a nice in-between size for its 40-watt power rating. It also weighs very little but feels really solid in the hand and not cheap at all, mainly due to its clear “crystal-like” casing which makes it see-through.

It’s available in seven colors, with all of them coming in a black-to-transparent fade for the most part, with a metal ring of the color making up about one-third of the body. I got the blue one for review. The blue part is a pretty basic matte metallic blue, but the real look comes from the clear casing.

There is only one button on the device which acts as a power button and an on/off button. There is no inhale to fire. The front bottom has three breathing LEDs for battery charge level. All in all, it’s a pretty standard and simple stick-style pod system, but it is well built and looks great.

Getting started

The LUXE X is a pretty typical pod system that’s beginner-friendly and simple to use. There are no button combinations or modes. To turn it on or off press the fire button five times, while holding the button will fire the device.

The device offers adjustable airflow by changing the orientation of the pod. It’s not a big adjustment, but it’s noticeable. Depending on the coil used and the airflow you are on, it can go from a loose MTL to a restricted DTL vape.

Filling the pod is basic. The pod itself is magnetic and comes in and out pretty easily. It’s not tight in there, but the magnets hold it in place well with no wiggle if you shake it. To remove the pod just grab it and pull it out. To put it back in, just pop it in, and the magnets will grab it. Really easy and simple as it should be.

At the bottom of the pod, there is a black rubber plug covering the fill hole. The pod is almost fully exposed, but is very darkly tinted so checking juice levels isn’t easy. When running low, you do have to slant the device to see if any juice is left on the bottom. I was informed by VAPORESSO that they will be improving the design of their pods in the future, and I will update this review if they send the new pods over.

Overall though, outside of the dark tint of the pods, I’m very happy with the usage of the device.

Performance

The most important part of any pod device is going to be the coils. VAPORESSO’s pod systems have had really good coils lately, so we’ll see how this stacks up.

This device uses a new pod series. The coils are built into the pods and come in two options, 0.4-ohm for RDL vaping and 0.8-ohm for MTL vaping. They include one of each pod in the box so you can try both to see what you like before getting more.

Both coils are making use of the latest “COREX” heating technology and are supposed to offer 50% more flavor and 50% more life. Life is pretty easy to measure, but I’m not sure how one could put a percentage on flavor or what the baseline would be. But then again, a lot of companies in this industry are using similar figures, so it’s hard to be upset about it.

I started my testing with the 0.8-ohm coil and used 50/50 20-24mg nicotine salt juices in it. I preferred it on the tighter setting, and the flavor was great and comparable to the top pods on the market. I was able to go through around 50 mL of juice from this coil before having to replace it, which is excellent life. I typically look for around 20 mL in coils like these, so I'll even give them a thumbs up for their “50% more life” claim.

On with the 0.4-ohm coil, which I preferred on the tighter setting as well. I used 70/30 3 mg juices with this coil, and it was ok. Not bad, but not on the level of the better low-wattage sub ohm tanks on the market. Solid for a device like this though. The coil life was good at about 50 mL, but not great. Pretty average for a 40-watt DL coil.

Overall, both coils are good, but I definitely prefer it as an MTL device with the lower-wattage coils and higher nicotine juices.

Battery life and charging

The battery seemed to last a really long time and could be an all-day vape for most—especially when used with the 0.8-ohm coil. The comes with an internal battery listed at 1500 mAh, and they list the charge rate at 1.5A. The Type-C port is located at the bottom of the device, so it has to lie down while charging. Not a big deal, but I prefer devices that can stay upright while charging.

Testing the charge rate, I got a max of 1.19A. Decent rating there, as most round up a little. I timed a full charge at 65 minutes, which is pretty average for a pod system. Most of the faster ones charge in about an hour give or take a few mins. For battery size, I got a little over 1200 mAh, so I consider it a bit overrated. However, to be fair across the board, most devices are rated about 20% higher than you actually get, so it’s an understandable rating.

The device also offers passthrough vaping, so you can use it while it’s plugged in. The three LED lights act as a battery meter and breathe when you vape as well as when the device is charging:

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed that it comes with a three-step battery meter, especially since they went with a four-step meter on the GEN AIR 40, which I think should be the standard. Seeing them revert back to their norm was a bit of a letdown. VAPORESSO said that they have passed this feedback to their design team, but I’m not sure if they are planning on changing the battery meter on the LUXE X at some point.

Overall, VAPORESSO did a great job with this device. if you are looking for a low-wattage MTL device that's small, light, and offers great battery life, you won’t be disappointed. The DL vaping isn’t great in my opinion, but it is good enough for someone to try and see if it’s up their alley. Still, for me, it really shines in that low-wattage range with the excellent 0.8-ohm coil.
